Mysterious Lights in the Sky
Developed with NASA's Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum Auroras Story - screen shot

About the Project
Auroras: Mysterious Lights in the Sky is a Flash-based Web site geared for K-4 audiences. Ideum worked with scientists and educators from NASA's Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum at Space Sciences, UC Berkeley to design and develop an animated children's story about the Northern and Southern Lights.

Ideum wrote the story and created the illustrations and animations. Actual video footage of auroras and NASA images are presented along with the illustrations. The story goes beyond just explaining auroras; children also learn about the scientific process, and how NASA scientists study auroras.

Auroras: Mysterious Lights in the Sky is featured on the main NASA Website (www.nasa.gov/multimedia). An exhibit-based version is at the Goddard Space Flight Visitor's Center and the Chabot Space and Science Center.

Illustrated and animated scenes help tell the story of Auroras; where they can be seen, why they occur, and how they are studied.

Ideum adapted the Web site into a book which has been distributed by NASA to educators across the country.
