Last week we conducted a workshop at the British Museum in London and hosted an open house to show off Open Exhibits software and our MT55 Platform multitouch table. Our next two events are at The Tech Museum in San Jose and the Maxwell Museum right here in New Mexico.

Connecting the iPhone to the multitouch table. You can see photos and learn more about the event at British Museum on the Open Exhibits blog.
On November 15th, we’ll be at The Tech Museum in San Jose participating in the Interfaces for the New Decade – Conference and Gallery Opening. You can get tickets for the day long event or you can come by the free evening reception. We will be demoing the Heist software project, which allows visitors to “steal” digital objects from a multitouch table using their mobile devices. We will also have a demo of our Open Exhibits Gigapixel Viewer controlled by a Microsoft Kinect. If you’re in the Bay Area and want to check out our MT55 Platform multitouch table we will have one at the Tech.

On December 2nd, we’ll be at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque. We will be running Heist software on the Maxwell’s MT55 Pro multitouch table. The touch table will show digital objects from the “Look Close See Far: A Cultural Portrait of the Maya” exhibit which features objects the Maxwell’s Mayan collection. The event runs from 4 to 6:30 PM. You can learn more on the Maxwell site, look under Events. The Maxwell Museum is one of our museum partners for the Open Exhibits project funded by the National Science Foundation.

We’re moving! Six years (in New Mexico) and two studio spaces later, Ideum is on the move again. This time we are moving into a brand new building (still in Corrales) where will consolidate all of the things we do. We will have more space for our Web and custom exhibit development teams. We will also have expanded space for hardware and software prototyping; a lab! We’ll also have a new space for multitouch table assembly, testing, and shipping.
The new building also means more space for our GestureWorks team. Expect a few big announcements concerning the GestureWorks framework later this fall. Here are some of pictures of the space. There are more on our Flickr pages.

Tonight a group from Ideum headed up to Santa Fe for the New Mexico Technology Council’s Tech Ex Awards. The awards celebrate technological achievement and innovation by New Mexico companies and individuals.
We were the only organization that were finalists for two Solution Innovation awards; one for our multitouch Flash framework GestureWorks, and another for our EM Spectrum 100″ multitouch table exhibit. We were in illustrious company, as Intel, HP, APS, and others were also nominated. Last year, we won a NM Tech Award for our first-generation multitouch table.
Only four awards were given and GestureWorks was one of them! Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees.

The New Mexico Technology Excellence awards recognize “exceptional individual and organizational excellence in technology throughout the State.” We’re honored that two of our projects, the 100″ multitouch table exhibit and GestureWorks (our multitouch framework for Flash & Flex), are finalists for the awards.
Sponsored by the New Mexico Technology Council, the NM TechEX awards help to fund technology education for K-12 students in New Mexico. This year’s awards focus on two categories: Solution Innovation, for novel technologies that have potential for future impact, and Solution Impact, focusing on solutions that have already had a demonstrable impact on an individual or community level.
We’re glad to be a part of continuing efforts to build the technology community in New Mexico, and look forward to seeing everyone at the ceremony May 6.

Ideum is featured in latest issue of Santa Fe’s Trend Magazine. ”Trend explores and celebrates the unique and fascinating intermingling of cultural influences, tradition, and innovation in art, architecture, and design—in Santa Fe, the Southwest, and beyond.” The article talks about our multitouch table and other interactive exhibits in the magazine’s Business Profiles section. You can see the article here.

In August, we will be expanding the Ideum “campus” by adding a new studio space across the street. This new space (studio “C”) will allow us to work on larger exhibit installations, speed turn around time for multitouch tables, and give us room to add a few new developers. Studio C is raw and it will built out over the next 6 weeks. Here’s some photographs of the space, full sized images are available on Ideum’s Flickr site.
I’ll post more pictures as the new space is built out.

New Mexico Stories is a map-based Flickr mashup that we developed for the Museum of New Mexico Foundation. The Foundation is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the four museums and six historical state monuments that comprise the Museum of New Mexico.
This mashup site is open to visitor-contributions and the photographs are drawn from a Flickr Group which is also called, New Mexico Stories. The group is administered by the Foundation. I blogged about the planning process last October (see Planning for Social Sites).
New Mexico Stories pulls geocoded images from Flickr and places them on a map of New Mexico. Images are divided by county, so the site should be able to easily hold thousands of images and remain, “navigable.” In addition, a Gallery view creates a random collage of 50 images from the collection.
The site has just become available and the Foundation will be formally announcing its release later this spring. Please let us know what you think, and if you have a New Mexico Story to share, please do.
