The American Image is an online exhibit exploring John Collier Jr's work during the war years of the 1940s. The photographs depict day-to-day life in America during World War II. Flickr mashups are used to pull in photographs that make up the Collection and one of the interactive activities. In addition to exploring Collier's photographs, visitors can create their own short videos using graphics, photographs and clips from that era.

Ideum designed, developed and programmed this interactive Website with the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, University of New Mexico. The project was funded with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Portions of the site were developed to be extensible as the Collier collection on Flickr continues to grow and evolve, the American Image site is updated automatically.
