As part of a multi-year renovation of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Mountain Station, Ideum developed and installed a large interactive video wall to showcase the trails accessible from the Station. The project features stunning 4K drone footage, interactive maps, motion sensor onboarding, and a 12-foot wide IR touch overlay.

With an arrival station nestled above the Coachella Valley at 8,516 feet above sea level, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway serves as the main way for guests to visit the upper recreation areas of Mount San Jacinto State Park. Starting in the eastern foothills of Palm Springs, tram riders experience a stunning 12-and-a-half minute assent in the world’s largest rotating tramcar. These large circular tramcars rotate as they ascend to give riders 360º views of the region’s breathtaking scenery.

The interactive trail viewer begins with a motion sensor activating an expanding attract screen displaying footage of the mountain and overhead views of the Coachella Valley. Visitors are invited to scroll through trail options with dynamic maps and detailed descriptions provided by the California State Parks.

The project blended several experiences, from motion-controlled animated graphics to large format aerial video footage and updatable trail descriptions to reflect closures and seasonal weather conditions.

Ideum is thrilled to have had a part in the renovation of the Mountain Station. The full renovation is expected to be completed in 2021.
